Privacy policy

KitCut (kitcut.ai) makes short animated films from an idea you give it. This page says what we collect to do that, what we use it for, who else handles it, and how to have it removed. Questions go to [email protected].

What we collect

• Your account. Your email address. If you sign in with Google, also your name, profile picture and Google account ID. We never see a password.
• What you ask for. The idea you type, the pictures and voice notes you add, and the look and length you choose.
• The films. Everything made for your film: the script, narration, music, pictures and the finished video.
• Your plan. Your plan, credits and subscription status. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
• How you found us. On your first visit a cookie (kc_src, 90 days) notes the site or link that sent you and the first page you saw. It is kept with your account when you sign up.
• Roughly where you are. The city, region, country and time zone your connection comes from, as our network provider reads it from your IP address, kept with your account when you sign up, sign in or ask for a film. We do not keep your IP address itself.
• Sign-in. A cookie (kc_session) keeps you signed in.
• Invitations. When someone opens an invite link, we record that it was opened, how it was shared (for example X or WhatsApp) and the site that sent them, but not who they are. A cookie (kc_ref, 30 days) remembers whose link it was. If you then sign up, your account is linked to the person who invited you: they see your first name (or a shortened email address), when you joined, and whether you have made a film or subscribed, and nothing else about you or your films.
• A browser id. A cookie (kc_dev, two years) holds a random id for your browser. It is used only to tell a person from someone they invite, so that nobody can invite themselves.
• YouTube, if you connect it. See "YouTube" below.
• AI assistants, if you connect one. See "Assistants" below.

We use no advertising trackers and we do not sell or rent personal information.

What we use it for

• To make your films, show them to you, and let you share and publish them.
• To run your account, credits and subscription, and to send you sign-in links.
• To keep the service working and safe, and to understand which places bring us visitors.
• To run invitations: to credit the right people, and to stop people from inviting themselves.

What is public

Every film has its own page at kitcut.ai. Anyone with a film's link can watch it and read the idea it was made from, which becomes the film's title on that page, and can follow it while it is being made. Films made on kitcut.ai can also appear in the gallery on the home page and in search engines. Films made through an assistant are link-only unless you ask for them to be public: they stay out of the gallery and search engines. The pictures and voice notes you add are never shown; only what ends up in the film is. To take a film out of the gallery, write to us, or, for a film made through an assistant, ask the assistant to make it link-only.

Who else handles it

We use these services to run KitCut. Each gets only what it needs for its part:

• Anthropic (Claude) writes and animates your film from your idea, pictures and voice notes.
• Google (Gemini) reads the narration aloud and writes out your voice notes as text.
• ElevenLabs reads aloud a narration line that Gemini will not read. It receives only that line's text.
• An image model provider paints scenes for the painted look, from descriptions Claude writes.
• Stripe takes payments. Twilio SendGrid sends our emails. Vercel hosts the site, MongoDB Atlas stores account records, Microsoft Azure stores and serves the finished films, and Cloudflare carries the traffic to kitcut.ai and to the machine that makes the films.
• Google handles "Continue with Google" sign-in, and YouTube receives the films you choose to publish.

YouTube

KitCut can publish your finished films to YouTube channels you connect. KitCut uses YouTube API Services, and by connecting a channel you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of your data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

• What we get. Permission to upload videos to the channel you choose, and to read that channel's name, handle and picture so you can tell your channels apart.
• What we do with it. We upload a film only when you press Publish, with the title, description and privacy setting you chose, and then check whether YouTube has finished processing it. We read nothing else from your YouTube or Google account.
• What we keep. The channel's ID, name, handle and picture, and the access token Google issues, encrypted. We also keep a record of each film you published: the video's ID, title and privacy.
• Removing it. Disconnect a channel on your account page: we revoke the token with Google and delete it. You can also remove KitCut's access at any time in your Google account's connections.

KitCut's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data for advertising, sell it, or use it to train AI models.

Assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Meta AI and others)

You can make films from inside an AI assistant by connecting KitCut to it (see how). You sign in to KitCut and say yes on our own page; the assistant never sees your KitCut sign-in.

• What the assistant sends us. What it asks for on your behalf: the idea, the length and look, and any pictures or voice notes you give it (as links or files, which we fetch and pass to the film like ones you upload). We do not receive your conversation with the assistant.
• What it gets back. Your films' status and links, your credit balance and plan limits, your uploads waiting for a film, and your recurring characters. Nothing about payments.
• What we keep. A record of each connection (the app, when it was made and last used) and the access tokens we issue it, stored only as one-way hashes. An access token lasts an hour; the token that renews it lasts 30 days from its last use.
• Films it makes are link-only unless you ask for them to be public.
• Removing it. Disconnect the assistant under "Connected assistants" on your account page: its tokens stop working at once. The assistant's own maker (Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, Meta or another) handles your conversation under its own privacy policy.

How long we keep it

• Pictures and voice notes that never go into a film are deleted after 24 hours. Upload links expire after 30 minutes.
• An assistant's connection is kept until you disconnect it; its tokens expire on their own when unused.
• Your account, your films and what they were made from (including the pictures and voice notes a film used) are kept while you have an account.
• Characters Claude keeps for your later films, and a project's pictures, are kept until you remove them or close your account. A character you tell us to forget is left out of new films from then on.
• Payment records are kept as long as the law requires.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account and your films, by writing to [email protected] from the email on your account. We answer within 30 days. Cancelling a subscription is on your account page.

Children

KitCut is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we tell account holders by email first.
